Dash for the Splash Fun Run

If you are going to be in Branson on June 6th, then you've got a great opportunity to get some exercise, have some fun at White Water for a low price, and benefit a great charity...all at the same time.

How can I do this, you may ask. The answer is by participating in the Dash for the Splash 5k or 10k fun run. This event benefits Caring People, a Christian charity based in Branson which focuses on helping single mothers.

Today is the last day to sign up at the pre-registration fees ($25 for adults and $60 for teams of up to four), but you can still register up until the event with fees of $30 for adults and $70 for teams of up to four.

Registrants get:
  • A One-Day Pass for Whitewater on June 6th so you can cool off and relax after the fun run
  • A Short Sleeved T-Shirt
  • Bib Number
  • A Goodie Bag
The 5K route runs a loop around Factory Merchants (the red roof mall) which you must complete twice and the 10k route, for the ambitious among you, loops down Green Mountain Drive. Both end at White Water.

If you were planning a trip to White Water sometime in June, I'd consider participating in this event. You'd be saving yourself some money, getting some nice fresh air & exercise, and most importantly contributing to a wonderful cause.

However, registration is limited to 1,000 people so if you'd like to participate make sure to sign up online or in person by stopping by one of the Ridge Runner Sports stores in Springfield.

Welk Resort's Splash-A-Torium

The indoor/outdoor water park at the Castle Rock Resort is not the only such addition to Branson this year as the Welk Resort recently opened the Splash-A-Torium water park. The Splash-A-Torium is free to all Welk Resort guests and features over 10,000 square feet of aquatic fun. Attractions include a 100 foot water slide, a Splash Zone for the kids, as well as indoor & outdoor pools and hotubs. Looks like another great option for families who want to make sure that what they pay for lodging also provides water park access for their kids, rain or shine.

Branson AquaPlex

There are some great options in Branson for enjoyable water parks. The biggest, of course, is White Water. Others, such as Splash Country, Castle Rock, have both indoor and outdoor components and are attached to hotels.

What if you want to spend some time at a waterpark, though, but don't want to spend the whole day enjoying White Water and are not staying at Grand Country or Castle Rock?

Well, the city of Branson has provided you a cost-effective alternative that you may not be aware of: the AquaPlex. The AquaPlex is an outdoor only facility, but it does have a large pool, lanes for swimming laps, several play structures for kids, and two water slides. Perhaps the best feature of the AquaPlex is the price: $4.00 for youth (17 & under) or $5.00 for adults. The AquaPlex is located on Branson Hills Parkway near the new Branson Hills shopping development.

This is not to recommend the AquaPlex as being always the best option: if you want more slides, plan to stay longer, and are willing to spend more another choice may be a better option and I plan to discuss the other choices more in future posts. However, the AquaPlex does present a great choice for the budget conscious traveler.
