This is your last weekend to enjoy Silver Dollar City's Moonlight Madness extended hours (open until 10:00 PM).

Branson Airport: New Direct Flights to Phoenix and Austin
The Branson Airport announced on Monday, June 27th that Frontier Airlines will be adding new direct flights to Phoenix, Arizona and Austin, Texas. This will be seasonal service, for now at least, with the Phoenix flights running between 9/16-12/14 and the Austin flights from 9/17-12/10.
This is a great move for Branson fans living in the southwest and we can only hope that the ridership on these routes will be strong enough to justify an extension of the service.
For those of you who would like to try the airport but haven't yet Half Price Ozarks is currently offering a deal on a travel package to the Branson airport that may be worth checking out.
Branson Discounts with Groupon, Living Social, and the Like
If you visit the Branson Bargain Sites page, you'll notice a few recent additions. For better or worse Groupon-type sites dominate modern social commerce and our patch of the Missouri Ozarks is not unaffected.
For the budget-savy Branson traveler this can mean some great deals if you know where to look. Many of these deal sites are focused on Springfield but often feature Branson restaurants and attractions so it isn't a bad idea to monitor them regularly. Here are the ones worth watching:
If you are interested in Branson vouchers, you'll want to make sure to sign up for the Springfield, Missouri e-mails. If you have a smartphone, Groupon offers an App for Android and iPhones allowing you to save some paper by simply showing your deal using your phone.
This site, operated by KY3, features daily, weekly, and secondary deals. Branson is featured on occasion in the daily deals, Clay Cooper and Montana Mike's were on the recently for example, and they have a specific section for Branson deals.
You'll want to sign up for the Springfield, Missouri emails. Like Groupon, Living Social also offers apps for Android and iPhones with paperless redemption. If you join using the above link you'll get $5 in deal bucks to start your deal hunting.
As with any deal, if you enjoy your meal, adventure, or stay considering rewarding the business with your patronage in the future.
There is at least one more southwest Missouri deal site on the horizon and I'll report on that when it launches.

Branson Airport: New Service through Branson Air Express
Branson's airport will announce new service branded Branson Air Express, operated by ExpressJet Airlines.
The five new destinations offered by this service will be:
Austin-Bergstrom (AUS), TX
Des Moines (DSM), IA
Hobby Airport (HOU), TX
Terre Haute (HUF), IN
Shreveport (SHV), LA
Two thoughts about this announcement:
1) ExpressJet primarily offers private charters and this essentially represents the creation of Branson branded air service through public charter flights. Not what I expected, but an interesting approach by the country's only private airport.
2) The five new destinations are also very interesting and I think are well-chosen. These communities are close enough for Branson to attract visitors currently who are willing to make a long drive (or go on a bus trip). Inexpensive air fares may entice these visitors to come more often and there are likely others in these communities who are familiar with Branson and may consider coming now that they don't face the prospect of a long drive.
I will admit this was not the carrier I was hoping for, but I think it represents a good move on the part of airport officials. Hopefully it will help those Branson fans in Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, and Texas enjoy our beloved Ozarks more often!

Once again the Branson Landing has put together a pretty impressive lineup of free performances for their Summer Concert Series. Of special interest to any fellow Journey fans out there (and let's face it, who isn't a Journey fan) is the upcoming performance of Chain Reaction, a Journey tribute band. Here is the schedule:

Branson's 4th of July Celebrations
If you'll be in Branson for the 4th, you have a wide range of celebrations to choose from providing fireworks and patriotic music. From the CVB:
"The Branson/Lakes Area has a number of events beginning on Sunday, June 28, with the 20th Annual Honor America Celebration at College of the Ozarks. The festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with food, followed at 5 p.m. by live Bluegrass, Cajun and 1950's music. At 8:30, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra will perform a patriotic concert, with fireworks to follow at dusk.
Branson's celebration continues Friday, July 3. Chateau on the Lake's weekend activities begin at 9 a.m. Friday and continue all weekend with crafts for the whole family, outdoor games, barbeque and more.
Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Branson Landing Fountains, the celebration continues with a free concert from Chain Reaction - A Tribute to Journey, followed by the 2nd Annual Liberty Light Up Fireworks Show.

Branson Travel Numbers Up
If you made a trip to Branson sometime in the first four months of this year, you probably saw larger crowds than at the same time last year as the number of travelers increased by over 5 percent. No word yet on the summer numbers, but from observation I would not be surprised about similar increases. So, feel free to come to Branson and mingle with the crowds of your fellow Branson-aficionados!

Branson Ridge Winery to Open Next Month
The new Branson Ridge Winery plans to open shop at the Branson Landing next month. They will have a large shop featuring wine-making, wine-tasting, and gifts. They will also be opening the Cafe diVine, a European-style cafe. Originally, Branson Ridge had planned to open their own location on their 14 acre vineyard north of Branson but they have delayed this project and focused on the smaller Landing location. This is exciting news but lets hope this smaller venture allows them to move forward on their original plans as the renderings for the main winery location look very impressive.

Branson KOA Reopening
Campers heading to Branson now have a newly renovated option as the Branson KOA has reopened its doors after over $500,000 in renovations. The improved offerings include shuttle service (for a fee), breakfast every day during peak months, on-site pizza delivery, deluxe patio sites, pontoon boat rentals, and Kamp K9 for pets.
The Branson KOA is now located at 397 Animal Safari Road and you can call them at 1-800-562-4177.

Meal Deal: Andy's Frozen Custard
Okay, this isn't necessarily a "meal" deal per se but dessert is an important component of a meal. If you enjoy some frozen custard after your meal (and who doesn't) then this Meal Deal is for you.
Readers from Springfield will no doubt be very familiar with Andy's Frozen Custard as Springfield is home to its founders (although the first location was in Osage Beach) and it is something of a local institution. For most of you who visit Branson from further away and may not have the Andy's jingle memorized ("Andy's makes it fun to be a kid for awhile") then do your self a favor and give Andy's a try on your next Branson trip.
I'll even help by pointing out a coupon available through the Sunny Day guide: buy one regular sundae, get one small cone free. A great way to cool down on a hot summer night while enjoying the sights of the strip. If you stop there for dessert when most shows are letting out, then you have the especially enjoyable sight of watching the traffic that you are not stuck in.

Looking to take the family to enjoy Branson and Table Rock Lake? If so, you might look into staying at Hunters Friend Resort which offers clean rooms, a prime lake location, and reasonable rates.
During the summer months, Hunter's Friend offers 13 rooms which you can rent for less than $75 a night. They have seven motel rooms for $50 or six kitchenettes (which come with a rangetop stove, refrigerator, and necessary utensils) for $65 a night. All rooms come with cable television and high speed internet and the resort provides amenities such as gas grills and bicycles.
The Indian Point Marina is about 600 yards down the road (easily within walking distance) and offers boat or stall rentals, as well as a COE boat launch ramp. The Floating Cafe is located on one of the docks and there you can purchase food for you or food for the resident fish, ducks, and geese.
Heading the opposite direction on Indian Point road takes you to Silver Dollar City, if you're planning on making that part of your trip.
