Today's Springfield News-Leader has an interesting article about the difficulties facing speciality retailers across the country. It isn't specifically related to Branson, but I think there are two Branson-related points we can draw from this article: 1) these national struggles make the impressive growth in Branson retail sales even more impressive and 2) despite this local success, don't be surprised if we lose more stores as a result of the kind of national cutbacks described in the article (as happened recently at Tanger with Bombay furniture).
On a side note it is sad to hear that Sharper Image is doing so poorly and having to close half its stores, that store and the Discovery store (which recently closed all its stores to focus on internet sales) were always favorites of mine to browse around and look at the gadgets.
